LA VIE EN ROCK / FRANCE
(KOIDA9 LE BOUCHE A OREILLE)
News from the label Tributary Music, this being the forth release weıve seen here at OVNI this follow up to the
rock opera written by John Miner and performed by his Art Rock Circus. (Heaven's Café version & live version)
Fundamentally, this new opus from Art Rock Circus is not too different from the two
previous works we reviewed in the past (see preceding numbers
of Koid9) Like always this same feeling ..very seventies, but with more current
production, the guitar of John Miner leads the band on a more mainstream
mode. The great innovation here is the presence of the two singers (divas" as previously spoken of in the press!) namely Karyn Anderson
(who takes also the little keyboard numbers) & Karen Rene'. 2 other guests make
an appearance on the title track only, Ken Wenzel (saxaphone) and Ericka Syroid
(violin)
The concept is again still a story (the album sub titled "a story album")
and the lyrics allow this understanding.
An album to be a success without a doubt "for fans" of this atypical
musician who is John Miner " For those who havenıt heard as of yet, I advise you to give a
chance to this fine new label and throw out an ear or two! Check out this release or one of the past ones with an ear to the future as well!
Again, the label has announced "Live at Wilson's", a compilation of Las
Vegas musicians which features the premier live instrumental recording of Mantra Sunset from the album "eponym" Mantra Sunrise.
Also John Miner has been cast for the Hollywood film
³Ocean 11² with Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon. The film
celebrates a remake of the ³Rat Pack² classic with Frank Sinatra. The first filming starts in April and the films debut is later this year.
We donıt know if John will be a comedian or musician in the film!
. Also, The Nolan Stoltz Project, rock
interpretations of classic composers like Mahler on Stravinsky... Agh...yes!
By the end of 2001 we hope to see
the Chapman Stick music of Ron Parrish (he was one of the
first to work with Emmet Chapman on the elaboration of the
famous instrument)
2 new projects have signed recently. The Parrish Black Project who
promises to present an album of traditional fusion in 2002 and Velveteen, a
Bostonian group of progressive metal music with the drummer of Art Rock
Circus (circa ³A Passage to Clear²) And last a double album from Art Rock Circus is also planned for late summer release. A label surely to follow!
